Supergrass members Gaz Coombes and Danny Goffey have teamed up with producer Nigel Godrich, famed for his work with Radiohead, to produce an album of cover songs.
To be released under the moniker 'The Hot Rats' the album will feature the Supergrass guitarist and drummer cover songs from bands including the Beastie Boys, The Doors and The Kinks and is said to be inspired by 'Pin Ups', David Bowie's covers album.
Coombes explained how, “We sat in the restaurant across the street, drank loads of wine and just worked out what kind of songs we could record... But we did it in a way we could put our own personality and character on there to give it a real nice angle."
Producer Nigel Godrich added to BBC 6 Music: "I saw them doing a cover of Beat It when they were promoting their last record as a two piece. So we decided to record it... then we got in the studio and realised there were some better songs that we could be doing."
Supergrass performed a covers set at Glastonbury Festival back in June.
