Coldplay and Jay-Z both paid tribute to the Beastie Boys and Michael Jackson during their headline slots at the All Points West festival in New Jersey.
Beastie Boys had been due to headline the festival last weekend, but were forced to pull out after member Adam Yauch was diagnosed with cancer.
Jay-Z, who took the band's place on the bill on Friday, opened his set with a cover of 'No Sleep 'Till Brooklyn'.
He also paid tribute to the late Michael Jackson with a brief rap over the Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back'.
On Sunday, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin performed a solo piano version of The Beastie Boys' 'Fight For Your Right (To Party)' during the band's headline slot.
The group also played a special version of the King of Pop's 'Billie Jean'.
Following Coldplay's set, Martin described All Points West as "the strangest-smelling but best concert we've ever played".
As previously reported on Gigwise, Yauch is due to undergo surgery on a cancerous tumour in his left salivary gland.
