Andy Parle, former drummer and founding member of nineties Liverpool band Space, has died. He was 42.
Parle, who played drums for the band between 1993 and 1998, died after collapsing whilst crossing a road in Liverpool on Saturday night.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the police are treating his death as “unexplained”. Assault or a road accident having both been ruled and are not under investigation.
Parle had been an essential member of Space, according to former bassist Dave 'Yorkie' Palmer.
“It’s the saddest, most tragic end you could have," Palmer.
Palmer went on to explain Parle's impact on the band: “Space continued to have success after Andy left but the band changed and lost something which Andy had contributed.
"Even though we had another brilliant drummer there was something about Andy’s style which was unique.”
The band chalked up a string of hit singles in the mid to late nineties with top ten hits such as 'Me and You Versus the World', 'Avenging Angels' and 'The Ballad of Tom Jones'.
