The publicist of convicted music producer Phil Spector has announced that the 68 year-old is struggling to cope with life behind bars.
"He's doing fair, at best, if not worse than fair. He's not doing great,” publicist Hal Lifson told BBC 6 Music.
Spector was convicted in May of murdering actress Lana Clarkson at his California home in 2003 and is due to serve the next 19 years in prison.
"He's in a horrible situation with virtually nothing to do all day," Lifson said.
“Phil Spector was always a highly productive, creative person and now he's in a five by nine foot cell with no windows and maybe a half hour outside to walk around."
Most noted for his production work with such acts as The Beatles and The Ronettes in the 1960s, Spector became famous for his unique 'Wall of Sound' production technique.
"It's a huge, huge change of life for Phil Spector and a devastating turn in his life,” Lifson added.
It had been reported earlier this week that fellow Corcoran State Prison inmate and failed musician Charles Manson had attempted to contact Spector to help him mastermind a music career for the murderer.
