Pepsi have said they are unaware how a video of Michael Jackson's hair being set on fire while shooting a commercial for the drinks company leaked onto the internet.
The footage – obtained by Us Weekly – shows Jackson's hair catching fire after a pyrotechnics accident occurred on the set of the 1984 commercial.
The incident, which left Jackson with severe burns, has been blamed for triggering the star's dependence on prescription drugs.
A spokeswoman for Pepsi told EW: “We don’t know how the footage became available. Twenty-five years later, we’d question why anyone would want to share such frightening images.
“It was a terrifying event that we’ll never forget.”
When asked if Pepsi would demand the footage be withdrawn from the internet, the spokeswoman replied: “We don’t know where it came from.
“We don’t know what that footage is. It’s 25 years ago. We don’t know who owns it, so we have no recourse as far as I know.
“I can only tell you what I know. We didn’t put it up and we don’t know where it came from.”
In Us Weekley's footage, Jackson can be seen dancing even after his hair had caught on fire. It was only after ten seconds that crew members extinguished the flames.
The incident occurred on the sixth take for the commercial, which formed part of the singer's lucrative deal with the drinks giant.
