British Man Dies In Madonna Stage Collapse

A British man has become the second technician to die in France after the stage they were building for an upcoming concert by Madonna collapsed.

The 32-year-old man had been in intensive care on a neurosurgery ward in Marseilles since the incident happened at the Velodrome stadium yesterday afternoon.

Workers had been constructing a temporary roof canopy when it buckled, causing a crane to fall.

A 53-year-old Frenchman was also killed, while eight others were injured. Five are still in a serious condition.

The roof structure was two-thirds complete when the incident took place. Police officials are said to be focussing on a possible faulty power winch.

In a statement, Madonna said she had been left “devastated” by the “tragic news”.

"My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news,” she added.

The singer’s planned concert at the venue on Sunday has been cancelled, organisers said.

The show had been scheduled to form part of the second leg of Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet world tour.
