Thousands Of Michael Jackson Fans Receive Memorial Tickets

Thousands of Michael Jackson fans have received tickets to the singer's public memorial service in Los Angeles.

The event is set to take place at the Staples Centre tomorrow (July 7) at 6pm (GMT).

A total of 17,500 tickets were issued to fans, with 11,000 allocated seats in the Staples Centre and 6,500 in the nearby Nokia Theatre, where the service will be shown on video screens.

Organisers said more than 1.6million people had applied for tickets to the ceremony, which will also be broadcast to an expected television audience of one billion people.

Fans from around the world were allowed to submit an application for tickets after initial confusion that the ceremony was restricted to US residents only.

But the last minute nature of the event has led to speculation as to whether international ticket holders will be able to make it to Los Angeles in time.

Flights prices to and from the city have rocketed over recent days, while hotels are also said to be filling up.

Meanwhile, measures are being put in place to cater for fans who travel to the city without tickets.
 
An exclusion zone will be set up around the Staples Centre denying access to those without a special wristband.

At present, there has been no official confirmation as to who will attend Jackson's memorial, although reports have suggested the singer's brothers could reunite on stage.

Michael Jackson died on June 25 following a suspected cardiac arrest at his home in Los Angeles. He was 50.
