Michael Jackson is on course to top the official UK album chart this Sunday, Gigwise understands.
Jackson’s retrospective, ‘Number Ones’, will go straight to the summit after a wave of new sales following the star’s death on Thursday.
An additional six albums are also expected to chart within the Top-75.
There has been a huge surge in sales for Jackson’s music as people look to re-discover – and in some cases, discover – the musical legacy of the King of Pop.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Jackson currently holds the top fourteen places on Amazon.co.uk’s list of top-20 best-selling albums.
The popstar’s debut album, ‘Off The Wall’, is at number one, with two different versions of ‘Thriller’ at three and four.
An as-yet-unreleased ‘Essentials’ album is also on the chart.
Apple’s iTunes music store is also registering high sales for Jackson’s music, particularly his many ‘best of’ retrospectives.
Jackson died on Thursday in Los Angeles of a suspected heart attack. The LA coroner’s office yesterday ruled out foul play.
But a cause of death has been deferred while doctors await the results of toxicology tests, which could take up to eight weeks.
