X frontwoman Exene Cervenka has revealed she is suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS).
In a statement, the singer said she had been living with the disease for “quite some time”, but was only diagnosed during recent medical tests.
“Although this is obviously unfortunate news, I am choosing to see the positive in it,” she added.
Since their formation in 1977, X have become a fixture in the Los Angeles music scene, releasing twelve studio albums.
The band have also been supporters of the MS charity Sweet Relief since the mid-90s, which aids musicians with the disease.
In her statement, Cervenka, who also performs as a solo artist, said she intended to focus on her health, but would still continue to tour.
“While this diagnosis will most certainly mean some changes for me, personally, it will not affect my commitments to the current X US tour," she said.
“Nor will it affect my solo album that is slated for release this fall on Bloodshot Records.”
X's next scheduled date is in Philadelphia, PA on June 4.
