No self respecting fashionista would be seen dead stepping out twice in the same outfit six months after the release of their last collection. Kitsuné the Parisian purveyors of fine fashion and music subscribe to this view and in the wake of compilation 6, affectionately known as the melodic one, have proclaimed the seventh instalment of their Maison compilation 'the lucky one'.
Despite the impressive and largely electro clad eighteen tracks on display, their latest offering is by no means a sample sale of seasonal leftovers, more a showcase of en vogue tasters and summer staples aimed to thrill dedicated followers and window shoppers alike. Drawing on a range of influential foresight Kitsuné effortlessly provide a platform for inclusive exclusivity; an impressive trick to pull off but one they manage with the sublime guitar drenched electro-indie of ‘Something Good Can Work’ courtesy of Northern Ireland's Two Door Cinema Club.
It’s a cracking start and one We Have Band follows with ‘Time After Time’ providing a dynamic shift of unplanned promise. At this point, Kitsuné land rapidly lends itself to an austere guest-list comprised solely of beautiful people and with no plus-ones or readmission complimenting the pristine dress-code, there’s no reason the leave the glow of Balearic slow-mo smiles brought on by Phoenix ‘Lisztomania’ (Classixx Version).
With Crystal Fighters’ ‘Xtatic Truth’ completing the assurances of a slow build crossover, club Kitsuné, more than a one dimensional clutter of synthesized dance averages, is only a double drop away from the multilayered possibility of a Dazed & Confused photoshoot minus the overpriced pretension. That said, something needs to give to shake the genetic makings of a Café del Mar bastard child; praise the lord then for the acoustic respite of James Yuill ‘This Sweet Love’, the bedroom crafted tempo of Men ‘Make It Reverse’, Chew Lips ‘Solo’ and the genius of Heartsrevolution’s Japanese titled offering.
Compilation 7 is an evening out in audio and with the grey hours of dawn breaking through the cracks in the curtains Delphic ‘Counterpoint’ (En Route Mix) and Maybb ‘Touring In NY’ (Short Tour Edit) alludes to an excess of one too many before the wind-down, bite back of Renaissance Man ‘Rhythm’ and Tanlines ‘Bejan’ brings the Kitsuné catwalk party to a strutting finale.
Fashion and music are fickle bedfellows, take a chance on a one night stand with Kitsuné and you’ll soon work out why it’s called the lucky one.
