Fans should not buy tickets for the Reading Festival from unaffiliated websites, a councillor has warned.
Paul Gittings told the BBC such websites were exploiting “customer's desperation” by promising tickets to already sold out events.
Tickets for this years Reading festival, which will be headlined by Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon, sold out within hours of going on sale last week.
But Trading Standards have already identified 70 hoax websites that still claim to have passes left.
"People should take care to only buy from the official website and beware fakes,” councillor Gittings said.
"The difficulty we have is that some of these websites are very impressive indeed and designed to entice and attract consumers into using them.
"The whole appearance and layout of these sites makes them look official and genuine.
"Many of these websites are simply online ticket touts, resellers of tickets, who are working on the customer's desperation by promising tickets for a sold out event.”
The Reading and Leeds festivals will take place over the weekend of August 28th-30th.
