Lil' Wayne Faces 15 Years In Prison Over Gun Charges

US rapper Lil' Wayne will go on trial on April 20th on gun charges, a New York judge has said.

The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, faces one count of criminal weapons possession and one charge of possession of a loaded weapon.

Carter was allegedly found trying to conceal a bag contain a .9mm handgun when police boarded his tour bus in July 2007.

At a pre-trial hearing in September
, police officer Diane Hornung said she also discovered a man attempting to flush marijuana down the toilet.

Lil' Wayne's lawyer, Stacey Richman, argued that the case should be dropped because the police officer stopped the bus “without probable cause”.

Carter, who was dressed in a black leather jacket and jeans during an appearance at New York State Supreme Court yesterday (February 24th), was told jury selection would begin following his current US tour.

If convicted, the rapper faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.

    • man, that is just not good. Why would anybody want to lock up such a great rap artist. This just didn't seem right. I wish I have this rights to send someone to prison sentence and I will assure you those people who want to send Lil Wayne to jail and those ****ing idiotic judges!! will be first on my list. I just wanted for him to get out of this and make another album, because he can really rap hard and I think he is really good at it.

    • He deserves far more than 15 years, to my humble opinion. No matter his fame, I hope he get in jail for a logn time :) He promotes such a negative lifestyle. It is sad that Rap as to deal with such loosers, no matter how many $$$ he made. The problem is you can have the dumbest lyrics and still make millions. There is a definite line between something like Tupac's songs and Lil Wayne music.
