Gig Promoters Launch Ticket Website For Touts

    To help combat problems...

February 23, 2009 by Jason Gregory

The Concert Promoters Association (CPA) has launched a new website to help prevent music fans from being exploited by touts.

OfficialBoxOffice.com permits touts to sell tickets on, but only if they adhere to strict guidelines.

For example, the seller will have to provide details such as the face value of the ticket, and where it is located in the venue.

They will also have to disclose ticket numbers so promoters can check they are not fakes.

Fans lose over £100,000 a year when touts fail to complete a deal, or the ticket is of poor quality, according to the CPA.

CPA spokesman Rob Ballantine said: "They don't care if things go wrong because they're just taking a slice of the action.

“Fans keep us in business so if they get ripped off they won't come again."

He added that if a fan fails to receive a ticket bought through the site, then promoters would try to cater for them or provide a full refund.

    • Ticket touting is illegal. Yet 'The Trade' want to help facilate it by setting up a website? Thats not only stupid it's admitting that the Touts have won. Ticketmaster seem to have already set up a site where you can buy tickets at inflated prices already. The only hope is that by obtaining the ticket numbers they will cancel the ticket and put a replacement on sale when hopefully a true fan will get it.
