Green Day have revealed the title and release date of their eighth studio album.
The eagerly anticipated record will be called '21st Century Breakdown' and will be released in May. Fans can pre-order the record through the Green Day website for $11.99.
The short post contained no other information about the follow-up to 2004's acclaimed 'American Idiot'. Former Nirvana producer and Garbage star Butch Vig has been previously unveiled as the record's producer.
In an interview with the Alternative Press last December, Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong said the album pushes the boundaries of power-pop music.
He said: "I'm pushing myself to be progressive in song-writing and being a songwriter. I come from a culture where I'm into great albums, and I still believe in that.
“I'm not saying I can go for it this hard every time - there might be times when I want to have something that's a little bit more spontaneous and off the cuff - but with this record, the feeling's been that you've got to just go for it."
