Lady Sovereign has insisted that she isn't copying Kanye West by singing on her new material.
'Jigsaw', the title track from Lady Sovereign's new album, features a mixture of singing and rapping – a similar combination used recently by West.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Lady Sovereign said she had chosen to sing because she enjoys it and isn't concerned if her voice “doesn't sound perfect”.
“Kanye can’t sing and everyone knows that. There’s a reason why some people are rappers to begin with,” she added.
West's recent album '808s And Heartbreak' received a mixed response from critics following the rapper's decision to use auto-tune to correct his singing voice.
Lady Sovereign will release 'Jigsaw' on her own record label, Midget, following her departure from Def Jam last year.
