Unsigned band Boxer Rebellion are expected to top the download chart this weekend, outselling the likes of Coldplay on the way.
The band's debut album, 'Union', is currently at number four on the iTunes chart in the UK and top of the US iTunes Alternative countdown.
The album, which is also outselling Kings of Leon, has been recorded and funded entirely at the expense of the London band.
Their manager, Sumit Buthra, told the Telegraph: "This was a completely independent release and with no label backing, no finance, no radio play and no press coverage.
"I think it's a real indication that it is now entirely possible to get this level of success without a major label behind you."
Despite the album's digital domination, it won't qualify for the official UK top-40 because it hasn't been released on an actual CD.
Under current chart rules, digital sales are only eligible in conjunction with physical sales.
