Amy Winehouse has insisted that she is “not out of control” amid reports that the singer has been upsetting tourists during a holiday in the Caribbean.
Winehouse said she had been “having fun” on the island of St Lucia and was considering changing her lifestyle when she returned to England.
Recent reports have claimed that the singer's hotel refused to serve her any more drinks, while some newspapers have carried photos of her allegedly upsetting fellow guests.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “People think I’m a mess or something but I’m having such a great time and feeling so good at the moment.
“I’m certainly not out of control as some people have said. Yes, I’ve had a few drinks but I’m on holiday – I’m just young and having fun.”
Winehouse, who has been in St Lucia since before Christmas, said it was a “shame” that photos from her holiday had appeared in the press, but added it was the “price you have to pay”.
She also claimed to be in a “different” place than recent months.
“I’m getting loads of exercise, eating brilliantly and I’ve really been able to relax,” she said.
“I wasn’t really eating properly before with everything going on around me, but it’s different now.”
Winehouse, who has been romantically linked to an unknown actor during her holiday, said she was about to leave her hotel for a more secluded villa in order to get some “peace and quiet”.
“To me, I am in the best place I have been in ages. I’m looking forward to the future,” the singer said.
