Gary Kurfirst, the former manager of the Ramones and Talking Heads, has died at the age of 60.

Kurfirst passed away on Tuesday (January 13th) while on holiday in Nassau, Bahamas. A cause of death is not known.

An influential figure in the New York music scene, Kurfirst was credited with launching the careers of some of music's most loved and successful acts.

In a message on Kurfirst's website, Talking Heads' Jerry Harrisson said he would miss his former manager “greatly”.

“Though we saw each other infrequently since I moved to San Francisco, there was always a recognition of the bond between us when ever we spoke,” he wrote.

Kurfirst was also a key figure in the careers of Jane's Addiction, Eurythmics and the B-52s.

Over the course of his forty years in the music industry, Kurfirst was involved in record sales in excess of 100million units worldwide.
