British singer Dave Dee has died aged 65 after a long battle with cancer.
Born Dave Harman, Dee started his music career in 1961 with his band Dave Dee and the Bostons, however it was the band's next incarnation Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich that took the charts by storm.
The group scored eight top ten hits in the mid to late sixties including 'Hold Tight!', 'Bend It!', 'Save Me' and the number one smash 'The Legend of Xanadu'.
Amazingly, between 1965 and 1969 when The Beatles were at their peak, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich spent more weeks in the singles chart than any other act.
A statement released by his family confirmed that Dee died early this morning after “a long and courageous battle with cancer”.
Harman still toured right up until he was diagnosed with cancer three years ago.
