Led Zeppelin 'To Tour And Record Album Without Robert Plant'
Peter Mensch, manager of Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, has said the band are likely to tour again without frontman Robert Plant.
Mensch said Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer Jason Bonham have been having “a really good time” rehearsing together and could record new material.
Plant announced last September that he had no plans to return to the band after a newspaper claimed he had agreed to a new tour.
Calls for a Led Zeppelin reunion tour have been consistent since the bands reunion show at the O2 Arena in 2007, which attracted 1 million applicants for just 9,000 pairs of tickets.
Page 'Loves Music'
Mensch said people didn't understand that Page “likes being a musician” - and how he wanted to return to playing live.
Speaking to BBC 6Music about preparations for the band's 2007 reunion show, he said: “So they [Page, Jones, Bonham] did the show with Robert Plant; they had a really good time rehearsing, the three of them, before Robert showed up.
“And they decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill – whatever their bill was at this stage in their career – that they’d make a record and go on tour.
“And I support that because, why not? That’s what Jimmy Page does. That’s his job, his hobby, his vocation.”
Plant Replacement
Mensch said Page, Jones and Bonham “just need to find a singer” in order to return to the road.
But the guitarist's manager refused to comment on rumours that Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Chris Cornell had auditioned for the post.
“I can’t comment on any rumours right now. It’s going to be a long and difficult process. And we’re not soliciting people,” he said. “So don’t call me about it.”
It is not clear whether the three musicians would tour under the name Led Zeppelin.
