Britney Spears became the latest high profile celebrity to have their Twitter account hacked yesterday (January 5th) when an intruder sent a vulgar message to her fans.
The singer's followers on the micro-blogging website were left shocked when her account sent an update (or 'tweet') which allegedly said: “HI Yall! Brit Brit here, just wanted to update you all on the size of my vagina.
“Its about 4 feet wide with razor sharp teeth."
The message, which has since been removed, was immediately dispatched to the singer's 15,000 followers around the world.
A spokeswoman for Spears confirmed that the account was hacked on Monday morning.
“We apologise for any offence caused to Britney's fans and Twitter followers ... we never want to offend anyone,” the spokeswoman told Rolling Stone.
Spears' Twitter account has now been restored to normal service.
Her latest tweet reads: "Just heard Brit had a great time in Louisiana. It was super chill, with lots of working out and spending time with her whole family."
President elect Barack Obama's Twitter account was also hacked by an anonymous intruder this week.
