Up and coming electro star La Roux has come fifth on the BBC's Sound of 2009 list, which recognises new talent.
The singer, who is also one of Gigwise's ones to watch this year, was one of fifteen actsselected by more than 130 journalists.
The final top-4 places will be announced over the coming week. Dan Black, Little Boots and White Lies are among the artists in contention.
Last year, the BBC Sound award went to Adele, with Duffy and The Ting Tings also named as acts to watch.
