Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant Beats Mick Jagger, Axl Rose To 'Greatest Rock Voice'

In new survey...

Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant’s singing voice has been voted the greatest in the history of rock n’ roll.

Queen singer Freddie Mercury was second, while Free’s Paul Rodgers came third in the Planet Rock survey.

Trevor White, director of programming at the digital radio station, said: "It’s great to see Britain has produced the top three greatest rock vocalists of all time.”

Plant's success comes just two days after he was named a CBE in the Queen's New Years honours.

The results were compiled with the help of Planet Rock DJs, listeners and music experts.

Ian Gillan of Deep Purple and the Who’s Roger Daltrey came fourth and fifth respectively, while Mick Jagger and Axl Rose also featured inside the top-10.

Janis Joplin was the only female to make the list at number 21.

  • @Gigwise Hmm, there might be some technical reason they're doing them in a particular order. Christ knows.

  • @Gigwise It's because the only way they could get Dave Rowntree to play the drums was to hypnotise him. Too strenuous otherwise, poor chap.
