A racist song about president-elect Barack Obama has tarnished the battle for the chairmanship of the US Republican party.
The track, entitled ‘Obama The Magic Negro’, featured on a CD prospective candidate Chip Saltsman sent as part of his Christmas message to committee members.
The 41-track album, recorded by conservative comedian Paul Shanklin, also includes the song, ‘Down On The Farm With Al Gore’.
Saltsman told a political newspaper he had distributed the CD because committee members would have the “good humor and good sense” to identify the recordings as “lighthearted political parodies”.
However, Robert Duncan, the current Republican Party chairman, said he was “shocked and appalled” at Saltsman’s decision.
He added that the CD’s inclusion would do nothing to move the Republican Party “in the right direction”.
Saltsman managed Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee's recent presidential campaign.
