Amy Winehouse’s former personal assistant has claimed that the singer once spent £3,500 a week on drugs.
Alex Haines, who has previously been romantically linked to the star, said at one point during their alleged relationship drugs were the “first thing” Winehouse asked for in the morning.
He also told the News of the World newspaper that the singer suffered from the eating disorder, bulimia.
"She had to have a heroin and crack pipe near her or she freaked out,” Haines is quoted as saying by the newspaper.
"She’d keep taking drugs until she passed out. I reckon she spent £3,500 a week on them.”
Haines, who began working with the singer in 2007, claimed Winehouse’s problems with bulimia were “why she looked so thin”.
“She lived off Crunchie bars—up to 10 at a time—packets of Haribo sweets and bottles of orange Lucozade Sport. Her heroin problems made her crave sugar.”
The junior assistant manager claims he dated the singer while her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, was in jail. The relationship ended in May when it became clear Fielder-Civil may be released, Haines added.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Winehouse has spent the festive season holidaying on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.
