Johnny Marr has ruled out a reunion of his former band The Smiths, saying that he has no intention to go back in time.
Speculation last week claimed that the group, who split in 1987, would likely embark on a series of live shows in 2009.
But the guitarist said said in a statement that the rumours were “as usual untrue”.
Marr, who is currently playing guitar in The Cribs, added: "I'm very excited about writing and recording with The Cribs for a new album, to be released next summer and we're playing shows in February, so going back in time isn't in my plans."
A reformation of the band's original line up would mark the first time singer Morrissey, Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce have performed together since their split.
