Happy Christmas everyone. Yes, it's the time of year when waistlines expand, dogs are suddenly for life, and the winner of The X Factor ticks off their first career goal: becoming Christmas number one.
But what about the people who aren't called Alexandra Burke? The artists (and broadcasters in Terry Wogan's case) who haven't just emerged as the winner of a twelve week publicity campaign?
Well, this year there are more than ever fighting it out for the now coveted Christmas number two spot – a battle which, for just one week a year, makes the singles chart hold some minor relevance.
