Madonna is seeking nearly $7.5million in damages over the publication of pictures taken on the day of her
wedding to Guy Ritchie.
A judge in London today (December 8th) heard how the images, published by the Mail on Sunday, had been copied “surreptitiously” by an interior designer working at Madonna's home in California.
Eleven pictures appeared on the newspaper's front page and an enclosed double-spread on October 19th.
The singer's barrister, Matthew Nicklin, told Mr Justice Eady that she had been given no indication about the newspaper's intention to publish the pictures.
“She was ambushed, for the simple reason that if the Mail On Sunday had told her what they intended to do, the claimant would have sought and obtained an injunction,” he said.
The judge found in Madonna's favour after the Mail on Sunday admitted to a breach of copyright, reports the BBC.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Madonna officially ended her marriage to the film director last month following a “quickie” divorce in London.
