Amy Winehouse’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has apparently admitted to introducing the singer to hard drugs.
In an interview with the News of the World newspaper, Fielder-Civil said he had “dragged” his wife down a road “she would never have gone down”.
“Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am notabandoning her. I am doing this out of love,” he said.
Fielder-Civil, who was released from prison earlier this month after serving a 27-month prison sentence for assault, also reportedly claimed responsibility for Winehouse’s history of self-harming.
“I introduced her to heroin, crack cocaine and self-harming. I feel more than guilty,” he said.
“The first time Amy took crack she asked me, ‘Can I try a bit of that’. Crack is the nastiest drug. It makes you paranoid, unreasonable, edgy and totally suspicious of everyone.
"And you can get hooked on it straight away. But I was weak and an addict and I let Amy take some.
“I didn’t stop it from happening. For that I take full responsibility. It became something we did as well as heroin. And then our lives fell apart.”
'Drugs Overdose'
Fielder-Civil, who married the star in May 2007, is currently undergoing a course of rehab at a clinic in Surrey under the terms of his early release.
He also claimed in the interview that he had been present when Winehouse suffered a suspected drugs just months into their marriage in August last year.
The former TV runner said he had to prevent the star from choking on her own tongue by putting her in the recovery position.
Fielder-Civil said Winehouse didn’t recognise him when she came round.
“I knew ****ing then that I had ruined something beautiful. It was all my fault. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life,” he added.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Winehouse was admitted to hospital last Sunday after she suffered “a bad reaction” to a combination of prescribed medication.
The singer has suffered a string of illnesses throughout 2008, and was diagnosed with traces of the lung disease emphysema in June.
Winehouse is reported to have spoken to lawyers about divorcing her husband.
