Prime Minister Gordon Brown has written personal letters of support to contestants on The X Factor, it has emerged.
In his letters, Mr Brown showed a keen knowledge about the reality show and said he often disagreed with the critical opinion of judge Simon Cowell.
Taking time out from dealing with the current global financial crisis, Mr Brown told former contestant Daniel Evans: "On a personal note, can I say that the next time Simon says that you are only supported by the over-60s you can tell him that my wife Sarah and I disagree, although you would be better off mentioning Sarah rather than me as she is much further away from 60 than I am.”
Evans, who was voted off two weeks ago, failed to capture the judge's imagination despite a moving personal background.
The Prime Minster added: "Whatever the final outcome, yours is one of the great stories of this year's competition, and I know you will go on to great success in the future."
According to the Telegraph, Mr Brown wrote to contestant Ruth Lorenzo to say he disagreed with Cowell after he told her it would be “disrespectful” if she sang in her native Spanish.
