Convicted paedophile Gary Glitter's name has been removed from the Wall of Fame at Liverpool's Cavern Club following widespread complaints.
The venue's owners, Cavern City Tours, had previously vowed to keep the Glitter's name, which is etched into a brick alongside musicians such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, because it was a “historical document”.
However, they have now bowed to pressure from local MPs, headed by Liverpool MP Bob Wareing, and removed the musician's name.
"I didn't think he was a good role model and I wouldn't myself have wanted to put his name up,” Mr Wareing told the Telegraph.
"I understand the club wanting to put across the history of the Cavern Club and really not leaving anything out. But on the other hand this is a special case."
Dave Jones, one of the directors of The Cavern, said in a statement: “It's not there any more and as far as I'm concerned that's the end of it."
Earlier this week, a song by Gltiter was dropped as “related listening” from the GCSE music syllabus following pressure from the Government.
Glitter was deported back to the UK from Vietnam in August after serving nearly three years behind bars for child molestation.
He was jailed in March 2006 for molesting two girls aged eleven and twelve. His sentence was reduced by Vietnamese authorities last year.
