A song by convicted paedophile Gary Glitter will no longer appear in the GCSE music syllabus, England's largest exam board has said.
Glitter's 1970 track 'I’m The Leader Of The Gang' was listed by the Assessment and Qualification Alliance (AQA) board as “related listening” for students.
However, the board has now removed the song following pressure from teachers and the government.
"We regret any offence that has been caused by its inclusion and we will be contacting our centres and recalling the paper,” a spokeswoman said.
Fears were raised after a Deputy Head teacher called the song's inclusion “completely inappropriate”.
The exam instructions with Glitter's song on were sent out to thousands of school students this month.
Glitter was deported back to the UK from Vietnam in August after serving nearly three years behind bars for child molestation.
He was jailed in March 2006 for molesting two girls aged eleven and twelve. His sentence was reduced by Vietnamese authorities last year.
