Teachers have voiced their concern after a song by convicted paedophile Gary Glitter was recommended as “related listening” for exam students.

Glitter's 1970 track 'I’m The Leader Of The Gang' is one of a number of songs listed by the  Assessment and Qualification Alliance (AQA) for students studying GCSE music.

The exam instructions with Glitter's song on were sent out to thousands of school students this month.

“He’s a convicted paedophile jailed for sexually abusing kids. It’s completely inappropriate to recommend him as listening material,” one teacher told the Sun newspaper.

“Boys and girls of 15 or 16 who select this song will go straight to the internet to find Glitter’s music. I dread to think what they may find searching online for him.”

A spokesperson for AQA is understood to have said the hit was a “really good” example of a popular song.

Glitter was deported back to the UK from Vietnam in August after serving nearly three years behind bars for child molestation.

He was jailed in March 2006 for molesting two girls aged eleven and twelve. His sentence was reduced by Vietnamese authorities last year.
