Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, Paul McCartney Less Cool Than Carla Bruni

Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant and the Beatles' Sir Paul McCartney have both been voted less cool than Carla Bruni.

Bruni, the wife of French president Nicolas Sarkovy, topped the Alternative Cool List ahead of Kate Bush and Girls Aloud respectively.

US R&B star Beyonce and Plant completed the top-5 in the survey, which was carried out by Virgin.

Bruni topped the poll, which asked Briton's to name their favourite celebrity personality, with almost a quarter of the popular vote.

Earlier this year, France's first lady made a series of public appearances in the UK to promote her new album.

Sir Paul McCartney came in at number ten in the survey, one place ahead of US rapper Jay-Z.
