Russell Brand And Jonathan Ross Radio Show Faces Ofcom Investigation

A radio show in which comedian Russell Brand and broadcaster Jonathan Ross prank called the actor Andrew Sachs is to be investigated by Ofcom.

On the pre-recorded programme, broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on October 18th, Brand claimed he had slept with the Fawlty Towers actor's daughter.

The pair also joked that the actor might kill himself as a result of the comedian's claim.

The BBC has since apologised for the “unacceptable” nature of the four messages left on Sachs' answer phone.

Ofcom has revealed that more than 1,300 people have complained about the programme since details about the prank calls were printed in a Sunday newspaper.

The regulator said BBC broadcasters must adhere to its code of practise, which sets standards for TV and radio shows.

Brand issued an on air apology about the incident on his show last Saturday, while Ross, the BBC's highest paid broadcaster, said he had spoken privately to the Sachs family.

The incident has led calls for the pair to be dismissed from the channel.

Brand caused controversy last month as host of the MTV Video Music awards in America when he called President George W Bush a “retard”.
