Sir Bob Geldof Has A Beef With The Clash
The Boomtown RatsSir Bob Geldof of The Boomtown rats has been slagging off The Clash big time.

According to Contact music Sir Bob feels his band was overshadowed by the band that came to epitomise punk in the 1970’s.

In his usual articulate and colourful manner Sir Bob said: "The Clash had outfits designed for them. But somehow they were supposed to have more integrity? Why? This ersatz passion was just bollocks.

"I didn't like their records until ‘London Calling’ I said 99 per cent of the music is shit and I was right. It hasn't survived.

"All that “Hey right! The revolution!” tripe drove me mad! **** off, you ****.  Joe (Strummer) and Mick (Jones) wanted to be Mick (Jagger) and Keith (Richards)!

"Plain as ****ing day! Yet we were frozen out."

    Not bitter at all then…

    • More like the 99% of the Boomtown Rats songs that aren’t ”i Dont Like Mondays” hasn’t survived. It says alot about St Gandalfs own integrity that he says this now, when Joe Strummer is dead. I’ll probably be branded as the token rabid Clash fan, but Bob Geldof, you are an outright ****.

    • Bob's bitter the Rats never broke in the US and the Clash were a global sensation. The Clash were (and still are to me) the only band that matters. If you ever read Bob's autobiography, he comes across as a whiny b!tch.

    • I've been a big fan of The Boomtown Rats since 1977 but The Clash were in a different league altogether, if either of them have endured it's The Clash - when did we hear a cover of a Geldof song or an artist influenced by The Boomtown Rats? We never did. This paints a sad picture of a successful man who failed at what he really wanted to be good at.
