Britney Spears' court case for driving without a valid Californian licence has been declared a mistrial by a local judge.
The decision was made after jurors failed to reach a verdict following three days of deliberation.
The charges against Spears related to an incident in a parking lost last year where the singer is said to have hit a parked car before driving off.
Spears, who was photographed at the scene of collision, was represented by her father, Jamie, in court.
The singer, who originally faced hit-and-run charges, claimed she did not have a Californian license because she planned to return to her home state of Louisiana.
The jury raised the question of why Spears was stopped in the first place – an issue that wasn't discussed during the trial.
The foreman told the court: "I think with each return to the assembly room, everyone becomes more entrenched in their position.”
At present, it's not clear whether Spears will face a retrial.
