Andrew Lloyd Webber is to compose the United Kingdom’s entry in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

The composer will also take part in a talent search, televised by the BBC, to find the UK’s entrant.

Your Country Needs, hosted by Graham Norton, will use a similar format to Lord Lloyd Webber’s hugely successful musical talent shows such as How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?

Along with industry professionals, Lord Lloyd Webber will select six finalists, who will then compete on television. The public will decide the eventual winner.

Lord Lloyd Webber said the challenge “looks like the biggest mission impossible of all time.”

He is attempting to reverse the UK’s recent dismal run of form in the singing contest.

This year, the UK’s entrant Andy Abrahams, a former X-Factor contestant, finished joint last, scoring points from Ireland and San Marino.

As previously reported on Gigwise, the next Eurovision Song Contest will feature juries in a bid to end neighbourly voting.
