Britney Spears father, Jamie, represented the singer in a Los Angeles court yesterday, where she stands accused of driving without a valid Californian licence.
Spears was photographed in August last year hitting a parked car in a parking lot before driving off.
The singer, who originally faced hit-and-run charges, claims she did not have a Californian license because she planned to return to her home state of Louisiana.
Spears' father told the court that his daughter had stayed in Los Angeles longer than anticipated because of her child custody battle with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Spears faces jail if convicted, but is unlikely to suffer the fate because she has no criminal record.
As previously reported on Gigwise, the singer's new single 'Womanizer' this week became her first track to top the Billboard Hot 100 since her debut 'Baby One More Time'.
