Coldplay and Muse are among the acts hoping to walk away with a Q Award in London later.
Both bands are set do battle with Oasis, Metallica and Kings of Leon in the category of Best Act in the World.
Coldplay have also received three other nominations, including one for Best Album.
They have been shortlisted alongside Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Last Shadow Puppets, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend in the album category.
The latter three bands will have also all been nominated for Best New Act, as have The Ting Tings.
The Best Live Act category sees Kaiser Chiefs, Kings Of Leon, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, The Verve, and Rage Against The Machine all nominated.
The Q Awards will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
