US rapper Eminem has lead the tributes to MTV's flagship show Total Request Live (TRL), which will end in November.
In a statement, the rapper said he was going to miss the programme, which broadcast for the first time in September 1998.
“Where else will I be able to start feuds, defend my honour vigorously and act like an angry teenager on national TV?” the rapper said. “Oh wait ... The VMAs!"
MTV announced yesterday that TRL will conclude with a two-hour special on a Saturday afternoon in November.
But the programme's executive producer, Dave Sirulnick, denied that the shows final episode would be its last ever edition, saying MTV was simply giving it “a little bit of a rest for a minute”.
Over the years, TRL has helped launch the careers of a host of presenters, most notably Carson Daly, and artists, including Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.
At its peak in November 1999, the programme attracted a daily audience of 757,000 viewers, reports the Associated Press.
