Metallica frontman James Hetfield told fans to forget about uploading videos of the band performing at the O2 Arena in London last night onto YouTube.
Addressing the crowd early on in the band's show, Hetfield said: “Put your phones away."
He added that people should not worry about talking to their mother or bother trying to make themselves famous on YouTube and "just enjoy the show."
Most of the crowd appeared to support Hetfield's wish, and put their cameras away for the following song.
Hetfield's comment comes a day after it was revealed that the band cancelled an interview with a Swedish publication after one of their journalist's admitted to illegally downloading the band's new album.
In a review of 'Death Magnetic', which is currently number one in the UK, Jonn Jeppsson confessed to downloading a different version of the record – and said he preferred it to the official one.

- no not twats at all. if you pay to see a gig - why stand there and record it. its about enjoying the moment, not looking at a 3.5 inch screen. Before he said about the phones - it looked liked every 2nd person was holding a phone up. whats the point? plus this article completely takes it the wrong way. he made a joke about ’enjoy the metal show and you can call you mom later’’

- Couldn’t agree more. Funny how the article missed out that James said immediately after to just enjoy the show, we’’re all here to have fun. Metallica get so much negative press like this and it’’s becoming extremely irritating for the fans. I must admit, I did have my phone out to get a couple of pics because I have never been that close to the band, it was an awesome show and it really was for the fans - no fashion freaks and pouting morons for

- Yup.. i was there and this article appears to have taken his comments the wrong way... metallica have never really minded the bootleg recording of shows... think the comments were intended to encourage more audience participation... i find the press usually use comments like these to add drama on the forums etc.

- I’d prefer to shake a fist, bang my head or watch how that solo is played. I was at the end of a row and had countless people coming down next to me just to stand stationary for 2 mins looking at their tiny screens. As someone that uses professional software to edit clips, I just don’’t get the point of doing it at gigs. Hetfield was right and this has been taken out of context.
