Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has paid tribute to his former band mate, Rick Wright, who died yesterday (September 15th) following a battle with cancer.
"He was such a lovely, gentle, genuine man and will be missed terribly by so many who loved him,” Gilmour wrote on his website.
"And that's a lot of people. Did he not get the loudest, longest round of applause at the end of every show in 2006?"
It's not known which form of the disease Wright, who played keyboards in the band, had been battling.
During his career, the keyboardist had a significant influence on the instrumentation of some of Pink Floyd's classic albums, including 'Meddle', 'Dark Side Of The Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here'.
Gilmour said he had “never played with anyone quite like [Wright].”
“The blend of his and my voices and our musical telepathy reached their first major flowering in 1971 on 'Echoes'. In my view all the greatest PF moments are the ones where he is in full flow,” the guitarist said.
He added: “Like Rick, I don't find it easy to express my feelings in words, but I loved him and will miss him enormously.”
Wright's last performance with Pink Floyd came during their 2005 reunion at the Live 8 event in London's Hyde Park.
