Metallica have stormed to the top of the UK album charts with ‘Death Magnetic’, the metal band’s third UK number one.
The group’s ninth studio LP beat bookies’ favourite Glasvegas - despite only officially going on sale on Friday (September 12th).
Glasvegas’ self-titled debut album charted at number two, while Mercury Prize winner’s Elbow returned to the top-10 with ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’.
In the Singles chart, Kings of Leon’s ‘Sex on Fire’ was a new entry at number one, toppling America 23-year-old Katy Perry’s reign at the top.
The singer’s controversial song ‘I Kissed A Girl’ fell one place to number two.
Sir Cliff Richard failed in his bid to become the first artist to have a number one in six decades, charting at number three.
As previously reported on Gigwise, Metallica will bring their new album to the UK tomorrow (September 15th) for a fan-only show at the O2 Arena in London.
