Elbow frontman Guy Garvey says the band will give their Mercury Music Prize award to the mother of their late friend Bryan Glancy.
Glancy, 39, died in 2006 and is 'The Seldom Seen Kid' who the band allude to in the title of their winning album.
"You don't get any more seldom seen than when you're not alive any more, and I think he would have appreciated the gallows humour in that," Garvey told the BBC.
"I miss him every day. He was a great man and he should be stood here in many ways.
"That very heavy trophy there is going to be sat on Mandy Glancy's mantelpiece, his mum, because she's a particularly amazing lady."
Elbow, who formed nearly twenty years ago, beat the likes of Radiohead and The Last Shadow Puppets to take home the award and £20,000 first prize.
