US rapper Will.I.Am has spoken about the significance of presidential hopeful Barack Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention tomorrow (August 28th).

As well as officially being recognised as the party's presidential candidate, Mr Obama is also expected to discuss the issues that face Americans ahead of the elections in November.

Speaking to MTV, Will.I.Am highlighted the importance of the timing of the democratic hopefuls speech.

"It's important, 'cause it's engaging the people who have supported him,” he said.

“There's people who are going to be sceptical but with the momentum of the victory, that's going to propel us up the hill. It's beyond just black and white.

“It's American — and I'm just happy to be here."

The former Black Eyed Peas has been a long time supporter of Mr Obama – and last year released 'Yes We Can', a campaign song in favour of the candidate.

So far, the week long convention has already played host to speeches from Mr Obama's wife, Michelle, and Hillary Clinton, who lost to Mr Obama in the primary stages.
