Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox has had an operation on her spine following complaints of spasms in her back.
Lennox was flown home to the UK after being taken ill during an Aids conference in Mexico last week.
Surgeons released an impinged nerve during the operation, a spokesperson for the singer said.
Writing about the operation on her blog, Lennox said the injury had caused “more pain that I've ever experienced in my life.”
She added that her left foot, which was let numb by the spasm, felt “like a dead fish, freezing and numb".
The release of the singer's forthcoming retrospective, which features a song written by Keane's Tom Chaplin, has now been postponed until 2009.
