The creators of South Park have paid tribute to the late Isaac Hayes, who played Chef in the popular cartoon series.
A message on the cartoon's website, which is accompanied by a picture of Hayes' character in the show, reads: “Isaac Hayes Memoriam: 1942~2008”
Hayes, who was 65, died after suffering a stroke at his home in Memphis on Sunday (August 10th). The singer was found unresponsive by family next to a treadmill.
The tribute from creators Trey Stone and Matt Parker comes despite their relationship with Hayes having soured in recent years.
In 2006, Hayes announced that he was leaving the programme after eight years because Stone and Parker had ridiculed his belief in Scientology in one episode.
They responded by killing the character off in brutal fashion.
The popularity of Hayes’ role in the cartoon brought him fresh chart success in the UK with ‘Chocolate Salty Balls’, which topped the charts.
