A number of “priceless” guitars belonging to Iggy Pop and The Stooges were stolen following the their appearance at a festival in Montreal last weekend.
Eric Fischer, the band's road manager, said bassist Mike Watt's Gibson guitar, which he first used in the early 80s, was among the items taken.
The truck transporting their gear was stolen from outside a hotel where the band were staying, Mr Fischer said.
"We're all just gutted,” he told the Detroit Free Press newspaper.
Iggy and the Stooges are due to arrive in the UK later this month for a headlining performance at the Get Loaded in the Park festival in London.
