Abba Score Oldest UK Number One Album

It shoots back to the top...

August 03, 2008 by Jason Gregory

Abba have topped the UK album charts with ‘Gold’ – a record that was first released in 1992.

The Swedish pop group’s greatest hits compilation has been reinvigorated by the recent film adaptation of the Abba musical Mamma Mia!

The record, which is the fourth biggest selling album in UK chart history, last topped the chart in 1999. It has sold 26 million copies to date in the UK.

Coldplay, last week’s number one, fell to number two in the chart with ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’.

Meanwhile, in the singles chart, Dizzee Rascal and Calvin Harris’s four week reign at number one was ended by Kid Rock.

Rock’s new single ‘All Summer Long’ climbed from two to take the top spot, exchanging places with the UK grime star.
